Pink Zuken Mitts

Great pair of pink Zuken mitts. Light pink rovings with a brighter pink yarn.

Has anyone tried or heard of Zuken before?

Zuken - This European old world stitch dates back to the late 1700's and is known to many as The Secret Stitch or Zu...ken. In German the word for socks is "Socken". This Secret Stitch-Zuken was used mostly by men. They would use a wooden hook made from the spindle of a chair to latch stitches of heavy wool or rovings together. The men would zuk long socks to wear in their rubber boots so they could do chores in extremely cold weather. The Zuken stitch is windproof and the natural fibre helps keep you warm. Zuken uses both a strand of yarn and rovings. The stitches are extra tight to provide a windblock and superior warmth.

So much snow!

Hard to believe that it is already the middle of April. Usually we are shearing the animals by the end of April but we still have tons of snow here and if it doesn't warm up soon we won't be shearing for a while!
However, we can't leave it too long because we want to make sure that by the time fall and winter come again that the alpacas have had enough time to grow enough fibre to keep them warm!

Good for the Sole Slippers

These slippers are great for keeping your feet nice and warm - they also have a non slip sole which increases the durability and life of the slippers.

These slippers are knit on the outside and are needle felted inside to create a soft and warm padding - these slippers are good for the sole!

Will Winter Ever End?

Mandari and Soul Seeker - wondering when this snow will end so everything can dry up so they can be sheared!

Alpaca Traffic Jam

Alpaca traffic jam in the girls pasture. With all the snow we have had the alpacas only have one path that they use back and forth between the barn and pasture. When the animal in the front stops, everyone else has to stop because if they step off the path they will go into some very deep snow - in some places it goes up to their stomach. It is either stand and wait for the one in the front to move or the one in the back has to turn around so everyone can! The alpacas eventually made it to the barn!
